Motorcyclist dies after chain collision on northbound I-15 in Draper

A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle struck two vehicles in succession on northbound Interstate 15 in Draper, the Utah Department of Public Safety said 1.

The department said the crash was reported at about 1:21 p.m. on Oct. 3 near 10800 South in Draper 1. A black Dodge Journey was traveling northbound in lane four and began slowing for traffic when a motorcycle directly behind it in the same lane skidded, struck the Journey's left rear, then hit the rear of a Ford F-350 in lane three, according to the department's account 1. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at a hospital, and the occupants of the other two vehicles were uninjured, the department said 1.

The right three lanes were closed for the initial investigation and were expected to remain closed for several hours, the department said 1. FOX 13 reported that the interstate briefly had multiple lane closures and that they have since reopened 2. KUTV, citing the Utah Department of Transportation, reported that the crash blocked four right lanes and closed the northbound I-15 entrance ramp north of 11400 South, with UDOT logging the incident at 1:23 p.m. and last updating its alert at 2:16 p.m. 3.

The Department of Public Safety did not release the motorcyclist's identity. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper told Gephardt Daily he could not yet confirm additional details about the victim or the cause of the crash 4. The trooper said the people in the passenger vehicles were not taken to a hospital and did not suffer significant injuries 4.
