RIVERTON — Personal fireworks were prohibited anywhere in Riverton through July 21, 2026 under a statewide ban issued through an executive order by Gov. Spencer Cox, the city said 1. The period the order covered has since passed.
Lighting personal fireworks of any kind was illegal during that period, according to the city's June 25 notice. Professional displays remained permitted, including the Riverton Town Days show on July 4, and the state was to review conditions after July 5 ahead of Pioneer Day 1.
The mayor said the city's fire marshal supported the order and cited extreme fire danger, with more than 380 fires burning in Utah at that point in 2026, against 23 at the same point last year. The mayor said Riverton is a wildland-urban intermix area, with four canals, the Jordan River open space and dry creeks such as Midas Creek and Rose Creek running through it, and that the Unified Fire Authority recommended cities maintain the ban 1.
Town Days ran July 1-5, including a five-minute display at the July 2 concert and the Main Park show on the Fourth 1.
