RIVERTON — A boil water order issued by the Riverton City Water Department on May 19, 2026 was terminated effective immediately in a notice the city distributed May 21, 2026, after all required tests came back negative for bacteria, including E. coli, the city said 1.

The city said there is no longer an at-large risk of contamination in Riverton City's culinary water supply, and that Riverton City Water will increase bacterial and chlorine sampling in the area 1.

The order was issued as a precaution after an illegal cross-connection was found on a sprinkler system between culinary drinking water and secondary irrigation water within city boundaries, according to the notice 1.

The notice asks residents to tell others who drink the water, especially those who did not receive it directly, by posting it publicly or distributing copies. It also advises replacing disposable filters such as refrigerator and carbon filters, replacing reverse osmosis pre-filters, and servicing water heaters, coolers and humidifiers 1.

The notice was distributed May 21, 2026 under water system ID UTAH18025 1.
