HERRIMAN — The Herriman High School choir hosted a cabaret night titled "New Beginnings," with three of its ensembles performing a program that ran from Fleetwood Mac to the music the groups will take into competition, the district said.
The Chamber Singers, Opus and Vivace took part. The program included Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" along with the repertoire the choirs will use at the Shakespearean Festival, according to the district. Opus premiered two pieces the choir contributed to as part of a consortium: "For the Fallen," by Laura Farnell, and "A Newer World," by Jonathan Reid 1.
The district described the evening as showing a range of musical styles. Its announcement did not give the date or venue of the performance, or say how many students performed, and it did not name the students who took part.
The premieres are the part of the night with a life beyond the cabaret. A choir that joins a consortium helps bring a new work into being and then performs it early, and the district said Herriman contributed to both pieces before singing them. The evening also gave the program a run at its festival set ahead of the competition.
